There is a fairly nice looking silk green 2002 Cooper for sale at a used car dealer across the street from the Woodinville Costco.
Low miles - 38000 miles for $12000. There are some scratches on the rear bumper and some paint worn off the door pulls, but otherwise looks to be in decent shape. Control arm bushings are not too bad. Trying to convince the wife to get it as an around-town car, but seems she isn't interested unless it gets Prius mileage... Link to the car is here: Edited by CORNERS - September/17/11 at 5:11pm |

Did you point out to her that being a base model it gets far better gas mileage than Corners?

A different driver would probably help as well!
What sort of mileage do you get with Zippy? |

I am getting average 34 highway in Zippy. Colton noticed quite a huge difference in the amount of times I had to fill up compared to his S.

I don't check it in the city too much, but if it helps I go back and forth between snohomish and monroe for work for about 2 weeks before having to fill up (including a trip to Everett or Mill Creek or two)

Well it has low miles. Craigslist and dealers all seem to want more or less the same for cars with 100,000+ miles.
And we all know how valuable silk green color is. :-)

That is actually an amazing price for those miles. I paid $14800 and it had 41K on it

The car has a few scratches on the rear bumper cover, and I just noticed a dent next to the driver side headlamp. Also there is some missing paint on the interior door pulls.
It is relatively well-optioned as well, with auto A/C, cold weather package, leather(ette?) seats, cruise control, and who knows what else. |

Ah, I hadn't noticed the dent before but now I see it. Seems like a pretty good little car for your wife (not enough spunk for you I imagine ;) ) Nothing a little TLC can't fix. With those dings I'll bet you could shimmy off 500 bucks at the dealer.

Our '09 Cooper Automatic(yep a different engine) gets 26mpg in town and 36 on the road if I don't drive it like I am being chased ![]() Oddly, our 2011 "S" Automatic gets 25 in town and 34 on the road(short trips around the Sound). I can't wait to really go somewhere and check the real highway mileage like from here to Grants Pass Oregon. |

Tell her she can't get a Prius until it has MINI-like levels of fun. If you can talk them down a bit that would be a steal for that low of mileage. It appears to have the sport style of seats in leatherette and I don't see a built in nav system. Maybe somebody left a Tom-Tom in the glove department.
Bruce P.S.- The build date indicates it could be susceptible to the airbag light issue, for which the warranty was extended out ten years so there is a few months remaining on that. For that reason alone I would have Seattle MINI run the VIN to see what has been done to it. As far as that goes, you might just have them check the car out for you. P.P.S.- I just checked our mileage readings on Fuelly.com, as Stacie and I have essentially the same car as the one in question. I am averaging 31.8 MPG and Stacie is averaging 30.4. Both are around town readings; mine might be a bit higher because I take the West Seattle Bridge and the viaduct in to work which probably count as highway driving. Most cars listed as a Prius seem to average between 43 and 48. 2002-2005 R-50's average between 33.4, 27.8 (dragged down by a 15 mpg model!), 30.3 and 29.0. You can't put a price on fun. Besides, what does the Prius club do? Edited by valvashon - September/18/11 at 9:51am |

I think that is a listing screwup or it comes with a Garmin system. I sat inside this car and can confirm that the speedometer was located in its correct location, in the middle of the dash. :-) (Hey, just my opinion.)

All good points. Wife is now leaning toward a 2006 Highlander Hybrid, which gets 27city/25 highway, after realizing a Prius is too small for a family car. The Highlander is even more boring to drive than a Prius. No road feel, even when the car is undergoing major understeer! (Yes, I tested.) Our boring minivan is worth almost $10,000 more than what they want for the used boring Highlander. I'm trying to convince her to get this MINI or a classic Mini as well :-) The other car that I failed to convince her was a Jetta Sportwagen TDI - 140HP, but 236HP Torque! And it feels like you are driving a car, not to mention that unbeatable firm German seating and suspension. However, it looks like I have lost that battle as the car is too small for our 5 person family with 3 growing kids.

We paid $14000 one and a half year ago for our 2003 MCS with 22k. This is why I'm telling you that the price is a bit high. I think if you want a justa there are way better deal out there than this one. Stefano Edited by italianjob - September/19/11 at 7:36am |

It's easy to spot by the dent on the left side of the bonnet, and the really nice great condition leather seats.
By the way, we ended up getting a 2007 Prius. We decided to go small and see if we miss the extra space, and you can't beat the fuel economy. Over 200miles, our average MPG is 42 on regular unleaded fuel in mixed driving. (And that's including me driving it 1/3 of the time! My personal goal is to see how how bad I can get the Prius fuel economy to be when I drive it!) |
