    Posted: March/29/10 at 4:09pm
We're home!  Safe and sound!  I just don't know where to begin because we had the greatest time ever.  Martin and Dean put together the most fun drive down to AMVIV.  And it morphed into even more fun on the way down by getting input from locals on alternate routes that were a twisty and fun way to go.  Martin has probably noted those for future reference because I don't remember which roads they were.  Our group of 9 cars were some of the greatest people to hang with for 10 days.  Martin and Anne, Dean and Belinda, Les and Donna, Karin, John and Mavourneen, Gina and Ashley, Steve and Rob, and Jim and Vikki.  I don't think I've laughed so much in the past 12 months than I did in the last 10 days.  LOL
The scenery we saw was absolutely gorgeous and the weather couldn't have been better -- cloudless days every day until our last day traveling home.  Honestly, I think I had more fun on the Canyonball Run than I did at AMVIV.
I was a little disappointed with the AMVIV car show though and probably won't enter the show again when I go back.  They had several judges who judged the cars in classes by type of mini and when the show was over I saw one of the judges jump into the passenger seat of the mini who won the cooper class.  They also awarded the best in show award to a mini from Canada that was absolutely filthy and caked in mud.  It made it a little frustrating that we labored so hard to detail our car for the show.  Oh, well.
I'm working on getting the pictures sorted out and hopefully will have them posted soon!

Glad you are home safely!  Sure wish we could have made the trip with you!  You don't know how tempting it was to ride off with one of you when we saw you in Nampa!  Thanks for letting us share in some of the fun and I'm so glad you all had such a great time.

Glad to hear the travelers made it home Hug - even had the traditional winter storm on the way backDrive - wouldn't be AMVIV without it.  Now we will wait patiently for posts and pictures from the great adventure...    Who won the game?

Well I am home and my cats are glad to see me (food dish)LOL
Karen is at work and will be home soon.

I have to agree with Leanne that this was one of the best groups of people to hang with for 10days and we missed you Jack and Linda. We are already planning next year and it will be down the California coast and hopefully we can hook up with the West Coast MINI club to drive to AMVIV. They would be interested in that. I have already talked to them and got contact cards for planning.

As for the game Dean designed, Belinda won with a straight flush. She agreed to bet the money for the group as per the rules but if she won it would be used to fund drinks for the group for as long as it lasted. We placed a $120 pooled bet on the field in craps and lost. If the shooter had rolled a 2 we would have been paid 2 to 1 and a 12 would have paid us triple. The other numbers 3,4,9,11 would have paid even money. The shooter rolled a 6 so we lost.

I stopped by Seattle MINI and talked to Richard and he is very interested in seeing some of the pictures and if we want to do our slide show, we can do it at the dealership and invite other club members to come see it.

Martin took some great pics in Zion national park and while in Bruce Canyon National Park we debated pulling our cars up on the curb area for a photo op but figured we would get kicked out of the park because the non MINI believers would probably tell on us.

We had a great time and met up with a couple of guys from Vancouver BC.

Well I will post more later.

Hi everyone. We made it back into our neck of the woods about 5pm last night. As others have described, this was an amazing experience with equally amazing people. The weather was perfect allowing us to drive over twisty, two-lane roads in excess of 9,000 feet in elevation all the way to dipping our toes into the Great Salt Lake. Laughs and practical jokes were a daily thing and evening gatherings over a drink or three were standard fare. Thanks to everyone for such a great time and the vacation of a lifetime! I'm currently downloading 850 pics from my camera to the PC...so stay tuned for pics. :)

There are some great photos posted over there by other people already including some of Catlvr and some of my grill badges.  There's also a good picture of Peabody's Canyonball sticker on the back window.  Some of those photos were used in a slide show Saturday evening before the car show winner announcements.

I don't know who had the kit -- it was someone who had their MINI in the car show.

Okay, my first thought was that Martin scored a injection system, but then noticed that it seem to not be a color of any of our Minis.

This couldn't have been a better trip.  The Canyonball drive was organized by Martin and Dean, and to alleviate the inevitable boring parts of the drive Dean came up with a game which was part scavenger hunt/part participatory silliness.  Two locals gave us great twisty side trips (one from a guy who was one of two MINI owners in Kanab).  The scenery at Grand Canyon, Bryce National Park, and Zion National Park is indescribable.  Larry and Martin entered some of their photos from the parks in the photography show and their pictures were standouts.  And best of all, everyone laughed and had fun together.  One of the best vacations we have taken in a long time.

We are going through pix and will post the best ones soon.

AMVIV... how does one start... Well lets start with the Nascar type blowing of smoke from under my car at mile 90 into the trip... then a quick tow back to Seattle Mini, same day service or should I say major fix.. thought it was the Water Pump.. but no, it was the SuperCharger.. Thanks again JP and Jeff at Seattle Mini.. you guys rock! back on the road at 5:45 into Boise at 1:40 am.. back with the convoy next morning..therest of the trip was AWESOME.. Dean and Martin put together a fantasic trip.. it had every thing you could ask for..  curves, scenery, food, and Friends! I can't wait for next year!
a little bit faster now..

Wow Steve... I had no idea about your mishap! That's amazing you had your MINI in and out of the shop so fast! Impressive that you caught up with the rest the gang in Idaho! That's quite a story! Glad to hear it ended on a positive note.

Well...it has been noisier than it was supposed to for about a year.. but nobody knew why,,
so I am guessing that the bearings that turn the water pump finally gave out.. so the car overheated with a puff of smoke... I was lucky that Seattle Mini had a used one on the shelves..or I would have been late to Vegas..''

It looked cool from behind -- looked like a NASCAR reenactment!  I'm just glad we were far enough back that the coolant didn't blow out all over Catlvr!  But we were amazed that Steve and Rob were able to catch back up with us so quickly.  The trip wouldn't have been the same without them!

Thanks for the great photos!  We were not able to go on the run but it looks like beautiful country that time of year.  Are you going to label the photos, like what is that man made tunnel with nothing attached to it photo #55??

I will try to get them labeled better soon.  The tunnel you're talking about is actually a window that looks out from the tunnel you drive through to enter Zion.  We were down below it looking back up at it.  The tunnel is about a half mile tunnel and every so often there is a window to look out of.  They were pretty cool.

I think they used those to dump the debris from drilling the tunnel during construction.
