    Posted: January/11/12 at 1:07pm
Also known as:
The Barefoot Bandit Commemorative Countryman Caravan Fun Run and Hide and Seek Challenge (or BBCCCFRHSC for short).....for Bruce

There have been a lot of new members over the past couple months and if they are anything like the
rest of us, they are itching to drive!!!

When we picked up our Countryman a couple weeks ago, we immediately felt the
need to drive it over the Pass to see how it did. As expected, it did GREAT!!!!!!!!!! Snow??? What snow??? LOL  Since we all got a pretty good chance to drive in the snow last week....we thought we'd do something a little different. Plus, the snow, ice, GRAVEL, and avalanche control wasn't sounding that good on I-90.

Date: Sunday, January 29th

Time: 10:00 Meet up at Smokey Point Rest Area

Destination:  Miners Diner in Yakima for lunch Camano Island loop and lunch at Diamond Knot Camano Lodge (http://www.diamondknot.com/Camano/index.html)

This is a family friendly restaurant and one of the few locations where they have Stone Grills. Fun experience if we manage to get there after 2pm (An extensive Breakfast is available up until then.)

Calling this the Countryman Caravan, but it's totally open to all MINIs who want to get out for a drive and lunch with friends!

Sunday travelers:
Kemo-sabe - Jack and Linda
Saphire - Les and Donna
Yonder - Dean and Belinda (Grace)
Valvashon - Bruce and Elliott
Roy - Beth and Roy
Dave's not here - Dave
Cupcake - Mark and Andy
jkim1201 - John &

Please re-confirm if you still want to participate so we can let the restaurant know.

Wish we could make it but we will be knee deep in race cars at Daytona! Have fun! Looks like we might get to try out some snow driving next week though if we are lucky. :)

Very cool!  We're in!  I will say that the Yakima River Canyon is spectacular that time of year as well.  We went through in February a couple of years ago and the river was iced over and there was hoar frost all over everything.

We're totally ready for a snow day!

That's a show date for Stacie, so Elliott and I will be joining you.  Not in a Countryman, although it looks like I'll be the only one representing for the Coopers, and in an R50 at that.  Feel free to pull over with me and watch me put on chains, but you don't have to.  I can catch up through Thorp.

Bruce

Dave - I can totally relate.... There is the tire cable/chain clearance as well. I don't think I have enough clearance since the H&R coilover install. It would be a very tight fit indeed. Pinch

Still willing to have a car along that might have to chain up?  Any idea what time we might be heading back?  I'm trying to be back in Tacoma by 5:00 pm on Sunday...

Bruce

Added- anybody up for a return trip along Highway 12 to Highway 7?  Maps of Google says it's another 40 minutes and a few more miles, but it seems like it would make more sense to go that way to Tacoma.  Plus Snoqualmie Pass gets so busy on a Sunday and then there's the chance of Avalanche closures.  We're comfortable going on our own, but I'm just putting the feeler out there for some company on the return...

I'm ready for a run.  Not sure if I've ever been to Camano Island or not but this should change that.

Weather looks good for Saturday - 15% chance of rain and temps in the low 40's.
(Still like to do the lunch trip to Miner's - just not quite this early in the year...)

Aw, ya chicken livers!  Camano Island is no challenge!  Remember, this is from an R50 owner!  Elliott and I will probably be there- if we're not, we'll give ya a call when we're at Miners!

Bruce

OK- I looked at the map.  I'll go if you change the name of the run to the Barefoot Bandit Commemorative
Countryman Caravan Fun Run and Hide and Seek Challenge.

Or BCCCFRHSC for short.  Let the record show that Bruce should not be allowed to name any events.

Stacie,

We are thinking that Bruce has a knaming knack that shouldn't be repressed lest it build to dangerous levels.   Looking forward to Saphire's first Mini drive,   Donna and Les.

Yay!  Looking forward to seeing you, Cupcake!

Looks like we have about 14 people so far.  It will be a short run and not all of the roads twist, but it will be fun to just see everyone, shake the cobwebs off, have a good meal and get away from politics and superbowl hype for a day!

The run is not long (neither is Camano Island) so we should end up at the restaurant before 1:00 and people can order either from the breakfast or lunch menu (in case you want to try the stone grill!).

Looking forward to seeing everyone!
