All 4 Mini's are now into the top 6 positions with rest day up.I should say the 5th Mini is fighting to stay in down at 20th
But all 5 finished in the top 6 for stage 5 FYI: race is almost half over and they have lost half the entries in the car class. Edited by johnf36 - January/07/12 at 1:34am |

Honestly I don't think you will ever see it, plus these guys would fall a sleep on the 1000. This about trying to get a 1,2,3 finish and a winner of DAKRA sticker for the Countryman. Cool to follow. |

Baja is piece of cake compared to this. Over 5000 miles! Love watching the minis beat up on the Hummers. Still lots to go. Stage 5 was over 100 degrees and stage 6 cancelled due to weather and snow! Talk about extremes!

J: Probably right about that! The 1000 is more of a high speed crash course than a finesse course. 24" wheel travel is the norm as is the short course, compared to Dakar.

Yes that is a 300+HP diesel that still manages good mpg for racing.

The Hummers are faster then the Min, they need to get back in the sand. The thing is there is only 12 minutes between first and fourth which regardless of who they are is really cool for the Dakar. |

INIQUE, Chile – Driver Robby Gordon of the United States won the ninth leg of the Dakar Rally on Tuesday, and French rival Stephane Peterhansel finished second to maintain his overall lead in the car category.
Driving a Hummer, Gordon took the 345-mile special stage in 4 hours, 35 minutes, 21 seconds. Peterhansel was 1:38 behind, with Joan Roma of Spain 8:37 off the lead. Peterhansel leads Gordon by 5:58 in the overall standings. "It was a very good special for us again," Gordon said. "For us, we've got to make up time. We've got four days left, four real days of racing left and the Hummer's strong." |

Oh yes...Gordon drops back in the latest stage with a problem (curse of the Hummers). Roma (MINI) wins the stage and Peterhansel (MINI) is now up with a 19min 5 Sec lead over the 2nd place MINI and 19min 51 sec lead over Gordon and his Hummer!
