Des Moines Wine Tasting

Just wanted to drop y'all a quick line to say thank you.  My wife and I had a great time meeting everyone and really appreciated how welcome we were made to feel.  I am really looking forward to other PSMINI meet ups and get togethers.

Success Alison!  You did a beautiful job and hey-couldn't beat the VIP parking and it all went to a good cause!  Thank you for putting this together.  Eddy (Silver Surfer) and I  had a wonderful time.

...One interesting side note:  Someone brought to my attention how strange that only one Red MINI was present out of 18 MINIs.  That's got to be a first! 

Teri and I had a terrific time at the event, in spite of being sideswiped while waiting to park at the event.  While we were lined up on the drive to park out in front of the building an older gentleman with major pre-existing damage to his van decided to pass all the MINIs on the drive even though there was no room between the MINIs and a row of orange cones.  Thank you to the person behind me that honked because I looked out my window in time to see a big van along side me about to hit my front fender.  I got on the gas quickly and moved as far right as I could just in time to avoid losing my fender!  At that point I was so shocked that I couldn't even back into my parking spot in true MINI fashion and just whipped into a spot.  The man was stopped by the staff in front of the building where they fished a couple of orange cones out from under his vehicle and directed him to his handicapped space he had been so impatient to get to. 

Thank you again to the folks behind me that told me he did make contact with my vehicle.  I was so focused on getting out of his way I didn't realize that he hit my mirror.  They pointed this out when I got out so I ran after them man and got all the needed info.  It looks like I will just need to replace the mirror cap.  I feel very fortunate that that was all that happened.  Here is a shot of the damage.


As I said, we made the best of it and had a great time.  My friends and soon to be MINI owners Stan and Paulette attended their first MINI event.  We enjoyed the drive, though my wife wasn't so excited about that 15mph corner I took rather spiritedly.  I know the director of the facility and had a great time chatting with her.  Thanks Allison.  We'll be back next year.

Here's a BIG  THANKS to Alison and John for a awsome drive I started in the middle and after seeing a Ford pickup cutting in bebind me and saw how slow he was going I new we lost some MINIS all of a sudden I was taking up the rear I was suprised to see shortly after that the MINIS that were behind me were now up ahead of methey some how I think thanks to John found the pack and re-grouped. At the last all stop sign we had John made a jesture to me to go ahead of him and I did what I am going to call the "GUMBY DASH" and Zipped down  on the wrong side of the road and blocked with my emergency flashers on the on comming flow of traffic to get all the MINIS back in single file and on their way to the wine tasteing extravaganza
