Fellow Mini owners,
I have a very pronounced engine knock, that does not go away once the engine is warm.
Mini- 2010 S automatic, with 15K miles.
Any suggestions, or has anyone else had this problem?

I would take it on the freeway 1st thing in the morning and floor it to blow it up so you can warranty another motor.

Have you had the tensioner replaced yet for the recall?  Could be tied to that.

I had the rattle once and took it directly to the shop.  It sounded like a tractor on start-up it was so bad.

If not the adjuster there is also the waste gate to look at, take it in ASAP.
If everything seems under control, you're just not going fast enough.

If you're running "regular" gas, try a tankful of premium.  If you're already using premium, try adding a can of Techron.

Hey Everyone,
Thanks for the suggestions. i am running premium gas, and my work commute is all highway, about 40 miles roundtrip. I had not heard about the tensioner that will be my next step. Interesting enough there was no knock today, it does not happen everyday.

Thanks
Lj

Based on the reading I did it sounds like the tensioner.  Call and get an appt.

I am curious about this engine knock stuff and had some questions just for my knowledge. What does this sound/ feel like? Will you always hear it or do you sometimes just feel it? Is this more common in the winter or with winter fuel? What causes engine knock? I know what it is I just don't know why it happens. Thanks guys, I know that's slot of questions but Id just like to increase my knowledge on this subject in case I start seeing symptoms at some point. Thanks guys!
