Here's some basic information about the Ocean Spray Beach Resort: Ocean Spray Beach Resort, 360-267-2205, 1757 State Route 105, Grayland, WA Cabins have been reserved under the name Bruce and Stacie Hart with PSMINI. When you call to reserve your cabin, you'll change the reservation to your name and secure it with your credit card. The Ocean Spray Beach Resort features 10 unique and charming cottages, each with their own personality. Cottages sleep two, four or six people, so some folks may choose to double up. All cottages have fully equipped kitchens, complimentary coffee, DVD players and electric fireplaces. There's an outdoor fire pit, gas grills and a children's play area. Cabin 10 - Stephanie Friday, June 9th: Depart on your own and make your way to the Ocean Spray Beach Resort. In 2015 we attempted a 3:00pm meet up in Federal Way with others joining us along the route. Friday traffic conditions made this quite challenging. This year, Bruce and Stacie will post a group Glympse. Anyone who wants to join will be able to see our location and the location of any other cars who join the group. Watch this post for the group Glympse as the drive approaches. Go to Glympse.com and click Get Glympse to download the app. We're shooting to arrive around 6pm or so, after taking the ferry to Southworth and making our way down highway 3, 101 and 108 to highway 8 and out to the coast. Google Maps estimates the drive to be 2 hours and 15 minutes from Southcenter without traffic (120 miles). Note: Driving directions include a stop at the Safeway at Mud Bay Rd. and Cooper Point Rd. in Olympia for all your rest stop and last minute grocery needs. 7:00 pm: Burger and Brat Cookout at the Ocean Spray Beach Resort in Grayland, Washington. You'll bring a cooler with some groceries for the cookout. We'll bring supplies and wooden skewers for making s'mores around the fire pit. There are gas grills on site. All cabins have full kitchens with full size refrigerators. Saturday, June 10th: 8:00 am: After a night of Last year's Saturday schedule changed at the last minute due to tide conditions. Come with an open mind and set your watch to vacation mode. Upon our arrival, we'll discuss tide conditions for the beach drive with the owners and firm up plans with the group at Friday's cookout. 9:00 am: PSMINI MINIs On The Beach Drive. Time is approximate based on tide conditions. We are planning, conditions permitting, to go South from Grayland Beach Road to Cranberry Beach Road (1.3 miles) and beyond for the more adventurous. No twisties on this one, just miles of packed sand and a group photo on the beach! Scared you'll get stuck in the sand? Only two cars got stuck last year, and they both made it out without much fuss. Plus, this year's drive is earlier in the season so the sand on the beach approaches shouldn't be as dry as last year. We promise not to leave anybody behind! Most MINIs should be able to do this; if your car has been lowered quite a bit you might want to reconsider this part of the drive. After driving on the beach: You Time! Visit the Grays Harbor Lighthouse, the observation tower in Downtown Westport, Westport Brewing Co., the Tinderbox Coffee Roasters or the Pomegranate gift shop across the street. Anytime on Saturday would also be a good time to take a leisurely stroll on the beach, build a sand castle or maybe even do a little beach driving on your own! Don't forget to visit the fish docks along Westhaven Dr. to buy some fresh fish for the Saturday night Seafood Cookout in the courtyard of the Ocean Spray. The more adventurous might want to charter a boat and catch some even fresher fish! Note: Charter boats leave around 6:00am. 2:30 pm: Group visit to the Westport Winery. (not confirmed, Stacie will be arranging this. Details coming soon) Five tastes for $5, waived with a purchase. They have over 30 wines and hard ciders to choose from. Don't forget to get something that goes well with your fish! 6:00 pm: PSMINI Seafood Cookout Sunday, June 11th: 9:00 am: After an early night, cook yourself some breakfast. 11:00 am: Checkout Things to Bring: 1. An FRS Radio set to channel 7-21 (for the beach drive) 2. A full tank of gas 3. Camp chairs (There are 2 tables, 12 chairs and 4 chaise lounge chairs on site) 4. A cooler with Friday night cookout supplies 5. Your sweet tooth - We will have s'mores fixings and wooden campfire skewers 6. Beach towels 7. Sand toys 8. Sunblock 9. Bug Spray 10. Your patience and some good tunes for rush hour traffic 11. A sense of adventure Grocery Stores: 1. The Local Store is 4 miles south on WA-105. It's small but has a wide variety of items. 2. The Shop 'n Kart, 108 S. Montesano St., is the largest option in Westport. Restaurants: Along Westhaven Dr., downtown Westport's main drag, you'll find several restaurants, along with ice cream and candy stores. Coffee: Tinderbox Coffee Roasters, 101 N. Montesano St. (Try their black and white latte.) Other Services: You'll find a drug store, ATM, liquor store and gas stations along Montesano St. as you head into downtown Westport. We'll pass the Westport Winery on our way into town, and Westport Brewing Co. is located in Westport. See you at the beach! Bruce and Stacie A note on the weather- my own personal meteorologist, M.J. McDermott of Q13 News, forecasts NEW AS OF 10 AM: scattered showers on Friday night and throughout the weekend, chance of thundershowers on Friday night but not for Saturday and Sunday!. We're still planning on doing the outdoor cookout activities and the beach drive, but be aware that for your comfort and safety, some of the times of these activities may change a bit. For the Friday night cookout try to bring something that can be made indoors on a stove as well. That's probably good advice for Saturday as well! Edited by valvashon - June/09/17 at 10:39am |
