I thought it might be fun to run the Hood Canal on a nice spring weekend in 2012 (since summer 2011 is quickly going by).

The BMW club did this drive in April and it was a really fun time. We started in Federal Way, drove through Dash Point, then went over the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and drove pretty much the entire length of the Hood Canal on US 101 until Quilcene, where we broke off for Port Townsend.

Sounds fabulous, and we really need some fun drives coming out of the winter doldrums. Great suggestion!

Just drove Hwy 119 from Port Orchard.  54 miles each way and about 1-1/2 hrs each way.  Not many places to see the lake or gather for coffee once you leave Hwy 101 on the Hood Canal.  Twisty road with a surprising amount of residences/Sub-Divisions (private) that go down to the lake.

It would make a good Spring drive when it is cold and clear.  Today was very smokey/hazy.

Further up the road at a large turnout.

Smog, those are some great pictures. I've lived in the Seattle area since 2000 and I've never been to Lake Cushman. Gorgeous views.

swpars:
Thank you!

The State Parks were closed (I suspect fire danger) so we could not get down to the lake easily.  Next Spring it should be a real nice diversion on a Hood Canal Drive.
