Ok let see. I live in the Silver Firs neighborhood near Mill Creek. I ordered a Coupe S with cold weather, tech/nav, premium, and JCW packages. Plus I added the xenon lights and black housings. Its going to take alot of getting use to I think coming from a G35 which is really big and open feeling.
The neighborhood I live in has rolled curbs which is like a rounded off 4" curb in front of the short driveway and with the JCW kit the coupe has about 5.5" of clearance. I am a little worried about rubbing under the front bumper when I go up it and may have to have someone come and ease the curb a little so that doesnt happen. There is the plastic guard on the front that isnt terrible expensive to replace but still I really would rather not rub on the curb. Has anyone else had to do this? Or does anyone know someone that can do concrete work for a decent price? I have found a few places but they like big jobs and don't want a small job unless its really worth it which means $$$$$$$.

Try hitting the curb at an angle. I get my air dam dragging occasionally if I don't angle the approaches.
Congratulations on the new order. Now go to your doctor and get some anti-anxiety pills for the wait ![]() Concrete grinding and a new apron for the driveway might be in order if the angle does not work. |

Yeah I hadn't thought of grinding. That may be a bunch cheaper than repouring the whole sidewalk ect...I figure the first time if i drive up parallel to the curb and turn the wheel and ease up while my wife watches how close then it might be ok. I guess that plastic guard isnt super expensive but if I rub oonce I will probably be fixing the curb...

Welcome! I live in the silver fir area near winco. I had the same problem with the rolled curbs. I came up with a solution that has worked really well and hasn't seemed to bother my neighbors. I went to home depot and bought a 2x14 and a deck coating that has sand mixed in and looks like concrete. It is bolted down using concrete anchors and still allows water to pass under. It is a night and day difference with this installed.

Thats a good idea too. I am not sure what the HOA would say but I guess I could try it. It may be what I do until I can figure out something else. If I could get a new curb and part of the sidewalk poured for like under 800 bucks I would probably do it but with the demo ect I think that might be dreaming. Really just a foot or so back from the curb would probably be enough though. Thanks for the ideas!

I wasn't sure what our HOA would do but I haven't had any problems yet. I am only renting other wise I would have chosen a more permanent solution.

We have a Coupe and the rolled curbs also. If you hit it at an angle it is no problem. Actually in our neighborhood it is tough to actually hit it straight on. We have an up sloping driveway and if we hit it right I can get the coupe to lift a wheel coming in.

Thats awesome to hear. I measured the curb at 4" and with the JCW kit the coupe has 5.5" on the corners, 6" in the middle, of clearance so hopefully all will be fine. I really would rather not spend alot of cash to deal with the curb. That cash can go towards fun stuff for the new coupe!

Welcome to the club Mike!
I'm glad you found us and even joined our club so quickly... It's always nice to have a discount right off the bat when you're considering more goodies for your new MINI.
As far as curbs go, I back my MINI in most spots so I don't worry about hitting things in the front. My MINI's been lowered a bit with H&R coilovers that were installed late spring last year. I haven't measured it lately since things have settled some the last few months, but I'm thinking I may have even less clearance than you? I'll have to measure it and get back to you...
It sounds like you'll be able to join us for the Tulip Rallye on April 21, provided there's no delay of the delivery (heaven forbid!). It's usually very well attended by MINIs and it would be a wonderful drive to break in your brand new Coupe. Here's more info: http://www.psmini.org/forum/31st-annual-tulip-rallye_topic8691.html
Hope to catch you at a gathering in the near future...
Cheers,
Brenda

Well it looks like I have found a decent alternative to reworking the curb if there even ends up being a problem. Griots sells a ramp that looks decent too so maybe the HOA wont make a fuss.
I will probably just do this if its needed for the $300 minus discount. It will be alot cheaper then concrete work and I think probably will cause less fuss with the HOA. We will have to see if I actually need it though.

So the coupe moved to "scheduled for production" today and has a vin now. Once its produced, whats the average lag time to make it to the dealer? My guess is like 5 or so weeks but I really have no experience with it.

Hah funny story there. The MA had to call the USA mini rep to ask about that. When you do the building on the site it says it doesn't due to the JCW kit but the rep said the site was wrong and that if you get the auto trany with JCW kit you dont get the red stitched wheel ect, but instead get the normal paddle shifter wheel.
So yes if anyone is wondering, auto trans. with JCW package you still get the paddle shifters but not the red stitching. No red stitching was ok for me because I thought it actually looked better without with my color choices.
