    Posted: December/15/09 at 1:40am
Here is an opportunity from our neighbors to the south for an all MINI track day at Thunderhill raceway in Willows, CA on February 15th (President's Day Holiday). I tracked my car at Thunderhill last summer and it was a great experience. They even have covered parking and a clubhouse to hangout in! Below is the invite from Norm at REME (Redwood Empire Mini Enthusiasts):

Hello PS Mini Members,

Just wanted to extend an invitation to all of you up in the Seattle area to come down and join us for MINI Thunder. This is a all day track event of HPDI (High Performance Driving Instruction) at the SCCA track at Willows California. This track was designed and built by the members of the San Francisco SCCA. It's a wonderful track with great facilities. We are limiting the number to 120 MINI/MInis. This will give enough time and instructors for every driver. We will have groups ranging from first timers to advanced. The cost is $175 per entrant or $250 for those that want to share a Mini. This includes loads of track time, SCCA workers, tow-trucks, flaggers, instructors, lunch, & T-shirts.

The event is Monday Feb 15th, 2010 (Presidents Day). We also have a Valentine's Day dinner at the Colusa Resort Casino on Sunday Feb 14. We will have a Mini Cooper car show and the winner will get their room compted.

Go to www.redwoodempiremini.com home page and scroll down to MINI Thunder for details and links.

Please feel free to call or email me with any questions.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year - and always.....keep the rubber side down!

I'm sure Thunder Hill will be fine...it's the trip down that would be the challenge.

Martin, thanks. That would be great to do but I won't be able to make it.

Hope that I'll be able to do a different track this year.

Do you have a trip planned for this summer?

Cheers!

That sure sounds tempting. Although I agree, the trip down there could be iffy at that time of year.

Greg,
BMWCCA-Golden Gate has a 2-day event at Infineon (Sears Point) Sept 25-26th in Sonoma. That's looking pretty good to me! You game? They also have a 1-day event at Laguna Seca in May. http://www.ggcbmwcca.org/?page=calendar&category=2

...I'm keeping an eye on this thread.

Does anyone happen to know if REME is doing this with "Hooked on Driving" or some other school?

Ken,  I'll check with Norm regarding who is instructing.

You should really think about running down to Sears Point in September. I think I've already got a few people willing to bomb down to Sonoma for that one!

Martin, yes I'm interested in the 2 day event at Sears Point. I ran this track way back in the 80's when I lived in the Bay Area. Think it undergone some changes since then but what a great track!

My better half would probably insist on making the trip since there's so much to do in the area.

Maybe we could organize a chase car/group with the ladies doing there thing while we play at the track? Would be an easier sell for me!

Cheers!

All good ideas. I think we have us a convoy! From what I heard it's probably one of the best tracks on the west coast for Minis and other momentum cars...turn after turn after turn..keeps you busy!

Well, I casually mentioned this to the wife... As soon as I mentioned that the race track was in Sonoma, she started packing!

This could be perfect. A little MINI vacation Cool with the Significant Others and a great track?

We should think about getting all interested parties together after the New Year and have a planning session. Would be great!

Cheers!

Per Peter of REME..."We are working directly with Thunderhill Raceway Park, although they will be providing all support and training staff. It will likely be very similar to the “Hooked on Driving” format of track time vs. classroom time."

Let us know if you are coming down in Sept. perhaps we can arrange a combined run if you are interested. Check out the Redwood Empire Mini Enthusiasts website for our archieved runs. We have several maps for great runs in Napa and Sonoma Counties.

Here is a link to some videos we just made about the MINI Thunder
