Hi!

I'm currently stationed in Germany. I’m just waiting orders to Fort Lewis WA around October 08. I have a Pure silver Mini Cooper S 2005 with 17% Alta Pulley, Alta CAI, Borla Race and few others Modifications. I got my car here with the Military Car Sales and I need to know what taxes and fees do I have to pay at the time of registration around Fort Lewis area? Also, I got the tools to install the reductions pulleys and belts if anyone needs my help.

Thanks

Henry

Welcome, Henry!

I'm sure you are going to put those install tools to work around here.  If you've poked around the site you see that we are a fairly active club - lots going on and lots of mods.

Google "state of washington", and you'll find something with an address that includes "accesswa.gov" and go to that site.  Look up the Department of Licensing for answers or at least a link to ask the questions regarding taxes, etc.

I'm looking forward to meeting you after you get settled.

Henry,
First, thank you for your service.  Second, with those mods, you're going to fit right in here.  Lots of us live near Fort Lewis, so if you need help, suggestions, etc, as your transfer gets closer, just ask.  You'll find we're a pretty helpful bunch, whether it's with MINIs or pretty much anything else.  At least coming from Germany, you're already used to our weather.

Guten Tag Henry! When you get stateside you'll have to meet up with our group. We do a lot of fun things and love to drive. Of course you've alreay been spoiled with the German driving experience, but Washington State has some great driving too! Look forward to meeting you in the Fall.

Tschuss!

Henry ~

Welcome to a great bunch of people in this club (my opinion anyway) who share a common love for an unique auto. Tongue  I'm looking forward to meeting up with you when you finally arrive in Washington.  My hubby Steve and I were in Germany for a vacation in 2002.  We absolutely loved it there!  We spent most of our time near Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Munich area.  Zugspitze was amazing!! Although Germany is an awesome place to let your MINI roam (I envy you right now), Washington has some beautiful scenery as well (you just can't drive as fast... legally anyway).  LOL

Thank you for your service to this country.  Blessings to you...
Brenda

Thank you for the warm welcome!

I'm looking forward to meet you all. The weather will not be a problem, just the speed limit. Here in the German Autobahn you can drive fast, but you have to follow the rules. In the city limit they have lots of speeding cameras and speed traps. Now, the POLIZEI is waiting for you to tailgate behind another vehicle to give you a hefty fine over 250 Euros around 385dlrs. I will try to post few pictures of my Mini.

Thank you!

Henry

Hi Brenda!
The Garmisch-Partenkirchen area is one of the many most beautiful places of Germany. I compare Garmish with Aspen Colorado and I always go with my family for christmas.

Henry,
Welcome to the club and to Washington.  Hopefully we'll still have some good weather in October.  It has to be better than our less than normal spring.  Pat was close on the website address.  Check out www.access.wa.gov for information about the state.

Guten Aben und welcome to the club.  I am sure that you will love it here.  Where are you stationed at?  I was stationed at Ramstein back in my Army days.  Loved Germany.  Your MINI sounds like a very sweet ride.  See you in October.

Welcome Henry!  I think you will like it here.  I spent a little time in Germany as well, one tour in Baumholder and another in Stuttgart.  Retired Army I am and both my wife and I work on Ft Lewis (Madigan), we both have minis.  Let me know if you have any questions about the area or if I can assist.  Hooah!

Hi to all!

I'm currently stationed at Heidelberg, Germany about 60 miles south from Frankfurt. The community is great and good for the family. I'm trying to find out more information about the Middle schools and housing areas around Fort Lewis. Also, what areas I have to stay away?  I will post some pictures but I'm currently away from home for few days. What it is the speed limit in WA?

 Thank you!

Henry

Legal tint is 35% transmission.  I'm running 20%, and haven't had a problem.  Others, like SharkReef, have been pulled over multiple times, until he changed the tint.  Of course, that's Silverdale for you, and not likely any place you'll need to worry about, being in Ft. Lewis.

As for emissions, I want to say that this is done every two years.  As I remember, they plug into the OBD-II port, so you may be OK with the Borla.  I can't say for sure, though.

Henry every thing I keep seeing that Mini's from Europe don't take ECU tuning designed for the American bound cars. What is up with that ?

Henry ~  Where do you originally hail from (City and State)?

Also, I hate to bring more sad news to you, but the a lot of the Interstate freeways are 60 mpg.  Only south of Centralia and north of Everett are 70 mpg.  I-90 is 60 mpg until you get near Hwy 18.  East of Hwy 18 it's 70 mph a good a part of the way.

I've also been on the Autobahn.  What an awesome roadway!  The roads here (especially I-5) are pretty pathetic as far as smoothness.

BTW, my dad is retired Air Force (from McChord).  See you in a few months...
Brenda
P.s.  Do you have any photos to share of you and your Mini and Germany?

Yes, I guess it didn't put it right. I was my understanding is that there was a difference in EUC programing on US vehicle for EPA reasons then on for the European models and That it was not good idea to load a American profiled ECU upgrade into a European Model.  I was wondering if you knew anything about this since your bring your Mini home with you? Maybe someone else here can help?

Hi!!

I'm using the Minipowerprog on my Mini, and today I contacted them for a professional answer to your question and this is the reply:

We never change program between different minis.

There is a lot of possibility to have problems.

US and European software are different in a lot of maps…..

Regards
