Just to update everyone: Corners took a look at the car for me, and it looks like the rebuilt supercharger I got from WMW was bad. I've got a replacement on the way.

Did WMW give you any grief, besides the bad supercharger?

I wish there was a local MINI Dealership, like our Honda, Subaru, Mazada and VW.

Ah, yes! Happy ending indeed. The replacement supercharger arrived and Corners swapped it out super quick because he's awesome. That fixed everything. My Mini is happy now, and so am I! WMW even provided a return shipping label, so I didn't have to pay to send the bad SC back!

Sorry everyone, just noticed this. (The PSMINI Forum does a terrible job of sending me notifications)

It was definitely a bad supercharger. I put an automotive stethoscope on everything in the engine bay and the snout of the supercharger was making a ton of noise. They are usually pretty noisy, so I compared it to CORNERS' supercharger - loud but less than a third as loud as the WMW replacement.

Replacement blower went on and the car sounds like new now.

Excellent!

We can't afford to lose even one of the middle-age MINIs.

If anyone needs help keeping their R50/R52/R53 alive, let me know. I can do just about any work, up to and including swapping the engine.
