1-2" in Everett around Silver fir area. Thinking about taking my car out in the snow for my first Mini snow experience.

I was a sitting duck on Highway 2 near Snohomish....three bad accidents forced me to stop...and once I did Zippy was stuck in the road. Plows and sanders came to clear enough of the road for me to get going and turn around where I was able to drop Zippy off at the work parking lot (plowing through 4 inches of snow after a running start) and I got a ride home. No way he is making it up the road I live on...

Can it melt now?

About three inches in Bothell. Main roads are pretty clear but side roads get a little yucky. Several Californians in the ditch from not understanding car dynamics. A 4x4 SUV with knobby tires did a 90 degree fish tail in front of me. It is as much the car as the driver.
My R53 with Blizzaks is running circles around everything....

I have some fairly cheap tires that came on the car when I bought it. And they are getting fairly bald. Definitely not made for snow...but I had no idea highway 2 was buried.

The boyfriend is looking for some snow tires for me so fingers crossed!

At about 11am I left Snohomish towards lynnhood via mill creek, my studded altimax's were gripping like nobody's business. after encountering a few closed streets and lots of inept drivers, my normally 15 minute drive ended up taking about 70 minutes. I wish people didn't have the 'pin it to win it' mentality in the snow.

I wonder what Chicago, Denver, New York or Washington DC are like after a few inches of really wet snow.

Close to 2 inches on parts of Mercer Island, and the streets have frozen and turned to an icy mess.

We went out in the Cooper earlier this evening to see how good it was with its new Blizzaks. It's absolutely amazing. My wife quickly stopped talking about regretting trading her Subaru in after the Mini climbed up a long unplowed icy hill with no wheelspin or slipping.

I knew studless snow tires were good as I ran some on my college Volvo almost 10 years ago, but they've come a long way.

I dang near didn't make it up my driveway last night, even with the Blizzaks.  The streets in Renton are pretty slick.  We have two inches on top of the ice this morning, so I haven't ventured out.  The driveway is pretty steep, and once you start sliding, you just have to hope you won't meet another slider coming down the hill on the street.

I was out around 9:00 last night and the car handled pretty well with the DSC turned back on.  Streets were pure flat ice.

Snow belongs in the mountains...

Thankfully, the Federal Way area roads are bare and wet with slush in places.  We'll see tomorrow morning.  FYI -  for those who park their MINIs outside, Griot's has a really nice snow windshield cover that takes care of the side windows too.  I bought one for my Honda (which is my daily driver; my MINI, contrary to the picture I posted Friday is well taken care of, safe and warmer in my garage).  IMHO, the $35 cost is nothing compared to the inconvenience of scraping snow and ice when you could be just waiting for the car to warm up.

Oh no.  Just saw a video on the Weather Channel of somebody's MINI getting stuck trying to get out of a rut somewhere in Seattle and ending up parking it along side of the road and walking away.  Should have had those Blizzaks on!

I did a winter in Washington DC.  Managed to go sideways across a little of the the Potomac bridge nearest the Jefferson Memorial in my Alfa GTV. Not many hills there but a few.

Was in my first ice storm there too.  Had no clue what has happening until I got up off the sidewalk in front of my door.

The sidewalk come up pretty fast doesn't it?LOL  As long as you don't break anything it is laughable.  Did you see the Top Gear episode of them launching a Mini off a ski jump?  It survived and stuck the landing!!!  Go MiniWooHoo

Good information about the weather for the next few days:

(It ain't gonna be good for MINIs)

Two things to be very cautious of:  Raised traffic islands and parking lot barracades burried under several inches of snow and those big chunks of ice that fall off trucks and busses - a MINI hitting one of those is like the Titanic hitting the iceberg - the ice wins.

That's just wonderful news Jack... Unhappy I'm working at the FD today/tonight as well as Wednesday and Friday. This weather does not make for optimal roads for fire engines either. I'm hoping people don't call 9-1-1 for stupid stuff the next few days. You wouldn't believe what people call 9-1-1 for including flu symptoms, a skin rash, hangover, etc. Yup, those are the kind of calls I've been on the last few days. Wacko

I don't mean to whine about bogus calls, but a fellow firefighter here at my station was critically injured when he was struck by a vehicle that went out of control along I-5. He's still alive but hospitalized... All this happened because someone had to call 9-1-1 for a wreck on I-5 that had already been reported earlier in the morning. The overturned vehicle was abandoned. Another vehicle (an SUV) lost control on the ice and slammed him into the other vehicle that was on its side. Below is more to the story for those who may want to read about it. Please keep him "Wynn" in your prayers, and please be careful out there...

Brenda - That truly was an unnecessary tragedy - people sometimes act without thinking - or think that they are doing a good thing when they are putting someoneelses life in danger.  To all the police officers, firefighters, emergency response teams, power crews and others who don't get "snow days" but have to be on the line protecting the rest of us from ourselves, THANK YOU.  Sadly, we must now add Park Rangers to the list of those whose lives are at risk in the performance of their duty.

I was thinking about that possibility too!  Maybe take the MINI's to the shop today and park them there for the weekend?  That is assuming that Jan can make it to Tacoma and James @ the speed factory can open up the shop!

The weather gods are conspiring against us!!  Put some incense in a MINI model and start ringing bells to drive away the evil spirits Big smile

Brenda:

I had heard about that firefighter but was unaware that it was a redundant call!  That is sad indeed.  There should be some mechanism where other drivers can instantly see whether a scene has already been investigated or not, like some sort of brilliant flagging.
