PSMINI Road Rally

Saturday, June 30, 2012

What:  A beginner-friendly time-distance rally taking about 3.5 hours to complete.

When:  Saturday, June 30, 2012

·         8:00 AM – Registration Begins

·         8:20 AM – Drivers Meeting

·         8:45 AM – First Car Out (FCO), with one vehicle leaving every minute.

Where:  Starting at the QFC near the Northgate Mall in Seattle and ending at the Triple XXX Root Beer Drive-In in Issaquah.

·         QFC:  11100 Roosevelt Way NE (between 111th St & 112th St), Seattle
Arrive early and get breakfast at Patty’s Egg Nest or Starbucks, both are onsite.

·         XXX Drive-in:  98 NE Gilman Blvd, Issaquah

How:  Show up at the QFC around 8AM with a full tank of gas and a co-pilot.  Bring your sense of humor.

It’s time again for the PSMINI club to run its own road rally designed especially for MINIs.  Enjoy some great curvy back roads as you twist and turn your way from Seattle to Issaquah via the scenic route.  This  time-distance rally will have you following semi-tricky driving directions and recording your mileage to see who can come closest to the Rally master’s official distance and time for the course.  But, mostly it’s an excuse to enjoy a fun drive down some of the area’s craziest roads.  A couple of checkpoints are included along the route for you to stretch your legs or get a second cup of coffee.

At the end of the rally course, enjoy lunch and a root beer float with your MINI friends at the Triple XXX Root Beer Drive-In in Issaquah while we tally up the final results and hand out awards.  Bring some cash, because the Drive-In doesn't accept credit or debit cards.

Get lost easily?  No worries, we have "rescue" envelopes with maps enclosed to help you find the next checkpoint--just in case!  (Feel free to bring your GPS if you have one.)

I'll be digging out my  Curta Calculator http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curta_calculator and my Halda Speedpilot http://www.bcsc.co.uk/info/speedpilot.html, maybe even look for my stringback driving gloves, and get ready for a good old TSD Ralley.

...I wish!  Although, TW Steel (one of the Lotus (formerly Renault) sponsors) is giving Janet and & along with a couple of friends, a tour of the Paddock during the British GP.  The purpose of the trip is attending a wedding, but we've managed to extend that into visiting as much of the island as possible.  A very busy 3+/- weeks...

However, for the record, this is a beginner-friendly rally. The only equipment you will need is your MINI, and maybe a calculator. Driving gloves are optional. LOL

It is mostly about staying on course and coming out with the correct distance.  There are a few questions but they should be pretty easy to spot.

I have to work the 30th but I will try to get a work-trade. This is a drive that MINI/Mini owners wouldn't want to miss!

The first leg will finish near Redmond, so that is an easy option for you. Trying to complete the second leg will make you late for your appointment, so you'll probably need to split off the course in the middle. Come see me before the rally and we can talk about your options.
