I took the factory tour at MINI Cooper in Oxford, UK today.  It was absolutely fascinating.  Photography is not allowed on the factory floor but I did manage to snap a few shots in the showroom before heading out on the tour.  This is one of the rarest MINIs you will ever see.  It's an Austin Mini Wildgoose.  Only 60 of these were ever made with 10 surviving today.  The cars started out as stock Minis but were retroffited in the 1960s by a company in Sussex in England.  Check it out.  I will post more photos when I get home and can download them from my camera. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the UK.  Oxford isn't all that far from London.  Remember to make reservations in advance via the UK MINI Cooper website.

One thing I can tell you is that BMW is building a huge new building entirely for the Rocketman.  It doesn't go into production until 2014, I believe, but they are obviously placing a lot of stock in it because the building they are constructing in Oxford, which will be entirely devoted to it, is huge.  Here's a link from the British press:  http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/motorshows/geneva-motor-show/264556/mini_mini_revealed.html

The Rocketman? Is that going to be real? I thought the canceled that. Maybe you mean the Paceman?

Either way - cool news and cool that they have a factory tour!!

They definitely said "Rocketman."  I remember it well because the guides said it's easy to remember, you just have to think of the Elton John song and I don't think he did one called "Paceman."  Of course, the guides could be wrong!

The tour guides didn't say too much about the Rocketman other than that the giant new building was going to be entirely dedicated to it so I can't tell you if it's going to be released in the US.

You should definitely put it on your list of things to do - it was the highlight of my trip to England this time.
