This was my first event and we really had fun thanks to everyone that joined in and we are looking forward to the next event.  WooHoo

Thanks to Cobolt for organizing things went smoothly at least as far as I could tell being new.  Star

Thanks to Hapa Haole for the use of the radio and it was nice to meet both of you.  I now have an idea of what radio to get.  Clap

This was really a blast.  Thanks for organizing, Justin.  It was a fun drive with I think 31 cars!  It was even a first event for some newcomers.  The tour was pretty interesting.  I've always thought nothing of the windmills but now after standing right next to a blade and at the base of one, I'm really impressed with them.  We had a great lunch at Wing Central.  Thanks go to Ty for suggesting it and it really did have 101 bears or I mean beers!  LOL  Here's a link to view the photos that Larry and I took --

Oh, and I can't wait to see Brenda's photos of the cars from the top of the fire truck ladder!

You're welcome John/Slyderone for the radio usage and you may borrow it again if you don't acquire one before the next gathering.  Wink

Thank you Justin/Cobalt for the fun drive and arranging the very informational tour of the wind farm.  It was mind-boggling how HUGE those windmills are and to learn all the statistics of them.  The whole day was totally awesome!  Thank you again for arranging the drive and tour.  Thumbs Up Clap

I feel privileged to have run into a firefighter buddy of mine yesterday morning.  How convenient that he happened to be on duty, assigned to the fire truck, and near our meeting place at Krispy Kreme in Issaquah at the exact time we were there. Shocked  Thanks to everyone for the last-minute relocation of our MINIs in the parking lot for the group photo of the cars.  I hope to post those soon (I need to get them off my camera).  Also, Soggy-1 has the better photos on his fancy camera (the other camera I took up with me) so hopefully we'll see those soon as well.

Cobalt (Justin)!

Thanks so much for organizing this event.  You did a great job!

Here is a web page I created for this run.  There are a few shaky videos incorporated into it and they take longer to load than the photos, but I think they work.

Thanks for taking my camera up the ladder Brenda and getting those aerial shots!!

Thanks Justin for organizing this drive.   We all learned a lot about the wind farm and got up close and personal too.  I would post my pics if I could figure out how to do that but for some reason everything I'm trying isn't working... so I am enjoying everybodies pics.

Thank you very much.

I tried being the co-pilot last time so I could take pictures and I am pretty sure I only got a few good ones. So now I think I will be able to drive during our events a lot more often cause Ashley can handle the camera a lot better than I can. Mybe I subconsciously took bad pictures on purpose so I could use that as an excuse to be the one always driving. Shhhh... don't tell Ashley.

Thanks Justin for organizing the drive & tour yesterday, we thoroughly enjoyed the drive & very interesting presentation & up close look at a windmill. The detour off of I90 was new to us a lot of fun as well as a beautiful drive, we enjoyed it so much we took the same route back.

Thank you Justin for organizing this tour, my first.  I had a blast both on the drive and on the tour.  Very interesting and informative.  I saw my first solar panel up close and personal too.

Thank you Stephen and Lee for helping me get back to I-90.  I saw the sign and decided to go back the way we came.  There were several scenic spots on the way to the wind farm.  Finding them via the rear view mirror turned out to be more difficult than I thought.

I've got a great pic of the fire truck with the ladder fully extended.  Only problem, I can't upload onto this website as I used high resolution.  The file size is too big.  Anyone got a quick trick for dropping the resolution to the max allowed (150kb)?

Thanks again for the wonderful experience!  Will definitely be joining more of these events.

Jenny:

Try emailing the photos to yourself and when you are doing it in the Preferences for your mail program, or your photo program, pick a small file size.  That is the reason that some of us have used Programs and services like Photobucket, Flicker, Webshots.  I use the program in the MAC, iWeb, and generate my own page that I can control.

We saw you take the same return trip and thought you wanted to see the things you missed the first pass @ Warp Speed.  Martin was using Photon Drive once he got off I-90 to the drive to the Wind Farm.

Hello Everyone!
My sincere thanks to all of you who joined this trip!! BowDown Clap

This event turned out better than I could have possibly hoped and with a final tally of 31 MINIs Wacko I have really set the bar high for the next event I plan.  I am so happy to have finally had the opportunity to meet so many of you face to face!  Though it will take me a bit to really learn everyones real name, (I still catch myself referring to people by their forum nicks) it was great to put faces with the posters and the MINIs they drive.

I would also like to extend special thanks to Wildfamily for encouraging me to plan this trip and suggesting Krispy Kreme as the meeting place, drnick for suggesting the scenic route 10 back road from Cle Elum and tyintegra for suggesting Wing Central for lunch (which was fantastic by the way) and for helping me during my brief period of being directionally challenged in downtown Ellensburg.  Sorry to the six or seven MINI's that ended up having to take that little "detour" with me  Embarrassed.

I definitely learned a lot about what it takes to plan an event like this and how difficult it can really be to keep such a long caravan together.  I intend to make a concious effort to do a better job leading the group on the road next time!

For those of you that have already posted pictures, I think they are fantastic!  I especially like the ones tyintegra got of the MINIs in our group as we were cruising along the road.  I'm looking forward to seeing more photos, especially from whoever it was that shot ahead of the group and took pictures from one of the freeway overpasses. Thumbs Up  I didn't get very many pictures but I will try to post what few good ones I took at some point.

One final housekeeping item, I have a yellow Motorola walkie-talkie that belongs to someone on the trip.  Feel free to get ahold of me whenever you have the chance and we can arrange to get it back to you.

Hope to see all of you soon, thanks again for making this trip a blast!

-Cobalt (Justin)

P.S.  Who was in the PW/BK Cooper S on I-90 during the return trip??  Dave and I were in our own two-MINI caravan and moving at a pretty good clip but that PW/BK MINI passed us like we were standing still!Drive

Justin,

Great trip and well planned. It looked like everyone had a great time and the tour was really a treat. Also loved the backroad trip to the site rather than just taking I-90 the entire way. I hadn't ever been on that road before so it was a nice surprise. Thanks for planning this event and running with it. You did a great job!

One other thing.  For those of you who took pictures, I was wondering if I could have your permission to send some of them to the group that manages the company websites.  They would love to include some of the pictures on the companies facebook and flickr pages.

Hi - 4 things:

1) The afore/abovementioned yellow Motorola radio was lent to me at the start of the day in Issaquah.  I can't remember his name, nor did I see him at Wings Central afterward.  But he was wearing a Google jacket (you know who you are).  Thanks for the loaner, and we had to leave fairly quickly because my son had to be back in Issq for work.  I gave it to Justin since he was the organizer, i figured "give it to someone who at least appears to be in charge..."

2) Here are some videos that I posted on YouTube last night.  Thanks to having my son Kevin as a co-pilot to take some of them!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fz6OO8HCBow
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhOKV01nPIM

3) Another panorama - this time, just the wind farm and no Minis.  A still picture - not a video.
Warning - large file (20mb).
http://www.tvstrategies.com/photography/panorama/082810-Wild_Horse_Wind_Farm_Vantage_WA.jpg

4) If anyone knows where I can find further information about a video camera for these drives, i'd be grateful(postings on these forums?).  I'm aware that there are all-electronic Webcam-like devices with reasonable resolution that plug into a computer's USB port, and that they are mountable in cars, but I don't know where to even start looking.  Post to me offline or start a new thread.

Cheers - Steve

Steve:

GoPro Hero cameras.  Griot's sells them but they might be more reasonably priced elsewhere.  There are several models.  I have seen them on cars doing autocross, surfboards, kayaks and on kites.  They are tough, waterproof and apparently take reasonable photos (5mp I believe).

That still panorama must have been shot in RAW?
